Permeate Pump With Clips Review

Permeate Pump With Clips
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I use this with my Watts RO system. The permeate pump has John Guest type connections, which is easy for connecting tubes. The connector size is 1/4 inch.Since my Watts system uses 3/8 inch tubes for the filtered water, I also bought 1/4 to 3/8 adapters (which will be included if you buy the permeate pump from Watts' site directly). The Watts manifold system has two 3/8" outputs to fork the filtered water to tank and faucet.I had to end one of them and add a 3/8 tee as a fork after the permeate pump. While I am writing this, I think I could have instead used a 3/8x3/8x1/4 tee between the manifold and the pump (no need to end an output and also save an adapter).

RO systems rely on water pressure difference on the two sides of membrane: the lower the pressure difference, the more wasted water. The often cited 4:1 waste water ratio is for when the tank is empty. As the tank fills, the pressure difference is smaller and more wasted water is generated and longer time is needed to produce the same amount of filtered water. This is why people who tested the ratio at home found higher ratios than the published one.In reality the waste ratio may be even higher as the tank is rarely empty before the system resumes to work again. This pump separates the tank from the membrane, making the pressure on the tank side of the membrane always low.As explained above, this will greatly reduce the amount of waste water.

When pressure difference on a membrane is low, the rejection rate (percentage of contaminants rejected) is also low, resulting in more TDS (total dissolved solids) in the filtered water. So, this pump will also increase rejection rate.High pressure difference also makes it faster to fill the tank, and a 24 GPD (gallons-per-day) membrane may be enough for a system that needed 50 GPD.In addition, the hydraulic pressure of the pump will push more water into the tank, resulting in a higher tank pressure when filled than without the pump.

An RO system has a shutoff valve, which shuts off the water when the pressure difference is low and reopens when the pressure difference increases to a certain level. This stops the system from wasting too much water. When this pump is used, it may render the shutoff valve useless. This is true especially for manifold systems like the Watts because the shutoff valve is built into the manifold and cannot see the tank pressure after the permeate pump is installed. As a result, the input water is never shut off.In this situation, the pump will act like a pseudo-shutoff valve and will shut off the system when tank pressure reaches a high level. But when the tank pressure is reduced a little (say by drawing a small cup of water), it immediately resumes to work. This increases the chance of TDS creep:even when the system stops, the membrane still sits in water, and the TDS on the tap water side will gradually creep through the membrane into the filtered water side. The more frequently the tap water is "refreshed" (as in the above scenario), the more TDS creeps into tank.I alleviated this problem by adding an auto shutoff valve externally between the tank line and the input water line.I used a regular shutoff valve (which shuts off at 60% pressure), but a 90% valve probably is better (see the comment by Waterdrinker).

The pump will generate a click sound every few seconds when it is working. This is normal and the sound is nothing compared to the hissing noise from the air gap of the RO system.

Compared to not using the pump, I probably save 4-5 gallons water for each gallon of filtered water. We use about 3 gallons per day for cooking and drinking. So our annual saving is about 5000 gallons, or about 15-20 bucks a year.

Fisher & Paykel : E522BRXU Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator (Right Hinge) Review

Fisher & Paykel : E522BRXU Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought my house, and found that the previous owners had done their own kitchen remodel which left a really strange size cutout for the fridge. It took me weeks to find this one which (as far as I can tell) is the only counter depth and narrow refrigerator.Anyway, it is a good fridge. No complaints. The fridge is cool looking, but the only reason that I can think someone would buy this one is for size.If you aren't restricted by size, I would look at a wider fridge.

Good things to know... There is an inline water filter (works good, easy to change), ice maker doesn't take up too much room, the fridge is counter depth (they don't advertise it as such but you can tell by the dimensions and the back is flat). The inside is small but the fridge doesn't look freakishly small.Oh, the ice maker is temperamental; it doesn't bother me but if you love ice this could be a problem.

Almost no one carries these; if you need to "see" it I found a Samsungat the big box retailers that is about the same size.If more than two people live in your house, or you like to buy big soda bottles, etc., maybe take a peek at something with similar dimensions before you buy.

Amazon is great. Purchase products all the time from them. However my wife and I purchased a brand new KitchenAid refrigerator from Western Appliance in August 2008. From the moment we got it, we've had problems. First the inside light malfunctioned, then the digital readout. The repairman has been here 4 times to try to repair it and now that all the parts have been replaced still has no idea what's wrong with it. The ice machine quit working on the third service call, and we have no ice.
I have made numerous phone calls to Western Appliance, spoken to Leo, the salesperson, and the manager. They just tell me to call the Repairman.
This Saturday will be the fifth visit by another repairman from a different service. We get the runn around when we ask for a replacement from western Appliance, repair service center and KitchenAid. Even though we purchased an extended warranty. I even called KitchenAid myself and was told that even if we purchased the warranty, it does not cover lemons or replacements.
Their service is atrocious at best, and now that they have made a sale, we are virtually ignored or fobbed off. Worst of it is, the repair company under their contract has no idea what they're doing.
This is the worst service I've ever encountered from an appliance store or manufacture. DO NOT BUY ANY APPLIANCES FROM WESTERN APPLIANCE or KITCHENAID. You will regret it if it should ever malfunction.
It is now Novenber 2008 and I have NO LIGHTS, NO DIGITAL READOUT, AND NO ICE from my brand new KitchenAid refrigerator, and am waiting for a "second Opinion" from another repair co, while being ignored by Western Appliance.
I am so frustrated with all the waiting and phone calls I've had to make, not to mention all the work time I've lost waiting the 4 hours window for the repairmen to show up. I was on hold one hour with the mother company only to be told I had to get a second opinion from another repair co. How long does this have to go on before we can get a functioning refrigerator?
Western Appliance, South Bay Repair and KitchenAid should really look at their practices and know that they are losing many potential and future customers because I will tell any and all who will listen about the shoddy way they treat their customers.
I also intend to notify consumer agencies as well as the Better Business Bureau, because I've had enough of their stall tactics.

Maytag : MFF2558VEM Refrigerator Review

Maytag : MFF2558VEM Refrigerator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love this refrigerator. I have owned it for a year and a half (with no problems). Below is my opinion based on each feature:

1. French Doors. I love them. THe left door has a flap that sort of flattens out as you close the door to seal against the right door.Because of the little flap, the right crisper drawer does not pull all the way out if the left door is closed. Alternatively, you CAN keep the right door closed and pull the left crisper drawer all the way out. Anyhow I usually end up opening both doors when i go to the fridge, so it will take 2 hands, but i still love the french door look.

2. Inside water dispenser. Love that too. THe only bad design is the button to get the water is a few inches above the actual dispenser. it is difficult for me to get a glass of water with one hand; i usually hold the glass with one hand and press the button with the other. But i do like this design much better than the 'outside of the door' water dispenser; i think this fridge has a cleaner look. I didn't even notice the inside water dispenser at first, it takes up VERY LITTLE room which is great!

3. Drawer freezer. I like it enough for what I have (bachelorette food like hot pockets and lean cuisines). I expected it to hold a bit more than it really does. I do like the fact that it's wire baskets that hold my food rather than a solid surface; sorta eliminates cleaning.THe reason i don't TOTALLY love this freezer is simply because if I had a bowl of liquid, i would have to be VERY CAREFUL to freeze it (such as an extra water bowl for my dog). Anything you want to be in the freezer will need to move/slide to get it in there - i have to only fill the bowl 1/2 full of water or else it will spill when i close the freezer door.

4. Adjustable "no spill" shelves. These are great. Everything is adjustable which is perfect for me. I adjust them quite a bit actually. Also there is a small lip on each shelf so if something leaks, it won't drip down the back wall of the fridge. I like this idea. Also the shelves pull out a few inches in case you have something in the back you need to reach.

Overall this is a great fridge. It also beeps after a few minutes if you accidently don't close a door all the way. Temperature of both the fridge and freezer are displayed at the top inside of the fridge. Very easy/intiutive to adjust. Those small flaws listed above are very easy for me to live with; i would buy this refrigerator again. And, i love the stainless steel look!

Our favorite aspects:
--Fits into very tight spaces in your cabinetry.(but this also means you will find it cramped--esp. the freezer--if you are looking for and able to house a more standard size unit).
--VERY quiet when running
--Brushed stainless surface is surprisingly resistant to fingerprinting and provides very easy, smear-free cleaning w/simple, inexpensive glass cleaners
--Excellent energy efficiency
--Attractive design (but do note:the sides are NOT stainless-- you can order "monochrome" finish which provides a dark grey orange-peel surface which matches the bottom panel and looks more consistent w/stainless than black; if you don't specify 'monochrome' you will get black sides, bottom and icemaker trim)
--Keeps veggies fresh and crisp far, far longer than my Frigidaire or Whirlpool ever did--weeks of useable crisp freshness
--Clear bins really help remind you of what you have
--We can put the glass shelves in our dishwasher for easy cleaning
--Love the SBS design since stooping and digging around in a bottom-freezer got old for me fast and I vowed never again.
--Water filter works very well and the filter age/status tracker on the front panel is very helpful.
--Theater lighting great for avoiding spills when filling ice or water

Have had for several months and we are so far nothing but pleased. Good value for the money.9/2010: We've had it for a year now and still really impressed. So efficient that we can keep both the fridge and freezer settings on the lowest possible setting and things still stay really cold in fridge and solidly frozen in freezer.Water filters are incredibly easy to take out and replace and since they're attached at the bottom of the front of the unit, they don't take up any valuable space in the fridge.

Haier HLP140E 2-3/5-Cubic-Foot Compact Tumble Vented Dryer Review

Haier HLP140E 2-3/5-Cubic-Foot Compact Tumble Vented Dryer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have only had this dryer for about 10 days now, but I'm very happy with it! There is one other review for this dryer and in it they say it takes a long time for the clothes to dry... this is true. But I think it's to be expected since this dryer can simply be plugged into any outlet unlike a normal dryer. So, smaller dryer... less power... longer drying time. The reason I'm giving this unit 5 stars is because if getting out the laundry mat is as important to you as it was to me, then the extra drying time is more than acceptable. Also, this dryer is VERY QUITE, simple to use and set up. For the first 5 loads I just had the machine sitting on the floor near a window - I didn't even have the hose out the window. It did get my apartment a little warm and humid (not since I've put the hose out the window of course), but I'm just making the point that it is very easy to set up.

How long does it take to dry clothes? I'm still trying to get all the drying times down myself. But I'm having much better luck using the timed dry instead of the auto dry. On auto drying it does seem to take hours before it finally stops. So I've just started to try and figure how long certain things dry. For example, my sheets (fitted bottom and the top sheet) I'm drying now between 60 or 90 minutes. On both times the sheets are close to dry and hanging them up for a little longer is enough. I guess this review is a little premature since I don't have the dry times down yet. But I have the feeling 90 minutes will dry most stuff about 90 percent.

I think once I make the adjustment and get things organized drying will not be a hassle at all. And for me the extra fiddling I have to do while drying in my apartment is so much better than having the hassle oforganizing taking everything out of apartment, waiting, digging up quarters, using a machine that has been used 10,0000 times instead my nice new machine.

UPDATE! THE SOLUTION! March 18, 2009

I have owned now the Haier Washer and Haier Dryer now for 5 months and I still am incredibly happy with my purchase. Even with the very long drying times with the dryer I love not having to go down to the W&Ds in the apartments laundry room.

But there is a solution to the long drying time with the dryer: Not long after posting my review C. Mok posted this comment (note: the spin dryer is very small 24 inches high, 14 inches in diameter - $134.00 + shipping - and only one company seems to sell them in the US):

C. Mok says:
May I suggest complementing your electric dryer with a small spin dryer? I bought a spin dryer on a whim when I remembered those were the only things used in Asia when I was there during the 80s. It has worked really well along side my small portable washer in my small apt. I hang dry most of my laundry except when I'm in a hurry. The spin dryer cuts drying time in half easily. Most spin cycle on washers go about maybe 600 - 800 rpm. The little spin dryer spins at 3000rpm. On a small wash (2 bath towels) it can spin out over a quart of water (over 32fl oz) in less than 2 minutes. That is a significant amount of water to evaporate using normal dryers. This will shorten your drying time and also save your clothes from heat damage from the prolong drying times. The only catch is trying to balance the load in the small spin dryer. I find it easiest to load all the heavy cotton clothes on the bottom and the lighter synthetic clothes on the top. Then give it a good shove and compress everything tightly down. Thats has worked really well for me. Check out [...]for a small spin dryer. Good luck!

I finally bought the spin dryer to work with my Haier dryer about a month ago and now washing and drying is very similar to using normal sized machines. Now there is just a very short middle step. I'll give examples of some of the basic loads I do each week.

Whites (socks 10-12 pair, underwear 10-12 pair, t-shirts 2-4):

After using the washing machine I put all clothes in the spin dryer. It is important to pack the spin dryer the way the manual suggests to prevent the dryer from bouncing around like R2-D2 in a bad mood. With small items like socks and underwear though, it's pretty easy, and after experience you will see what you can just drop and press in the SD (spin dryer)and what you need to wrap around. I does sound like this middle step is a pain, but after you use it a bunch of times, it's pretty easy and you don't give it a second thought. When you turn the SD on, it starts to spin, shakes a bit, then settles down and gets very quiet as it picks up speed. When you first use the spin dryer, you think, wow, i got ripped off! No water is coming out!.... But wait... after about 30 seconds water starts flow out. Dribblyat first but then... wow! With a full load, CUPS of water fill your water catcher. I have had between 1 and 5 cups of water (normally 2-3), depending on what I was washing. Once the water flow starts to slow down, you turn off the machine. It only takes 2-3 minutes.

I then take my clothes and put then in the Haier dryer and set the timer to 90 minutes. After 90 minutes the clothes are BONE DRY. I'm not sure how long it actually takes, but if the load is a little smaller there is a very good chance they will be dry after only 1 hour.

Darks: 2 pairs of pants, 6-8 T-shirts, 1 sweat shirt. In the SD, you do now need to put the pants in first, wrapped into the bottom of the machine, then the sweat shirt, then the shirts. Again, after 90 minutes - bone dry (as I said, they are probably done after 70 min? 80 min? I'm not sure because I just open it after the buzzer goes off.

Sheets (king size): OK, sheets are the only thing that I wash that can be slightly problematic. Because these are large items, they can make R2-D2 (the spin dryer) unhappy. You have to be the most careful here wrapping them into the spin dryer. In the Haier Dryer also, they can at times ball up. I normally wash 2-3 sheets at a time. Put them all in the spin dryer at once, then in the Haier dryer for 60 minutes EACH. I found that they don't ball up when you dry them separately. So yes, it would still take you 2 hours to dry 2 sheets.

The Washer and dryer are freakishly quite, but the Spin Dryer does have a lot of vibration at the beginning and end of it's 2-3 minute spin. Not a big deal because of the short time, but if you have thin floors and a neighbor under you, they might wonder what is going up every 45 minutes for 3 minutes while you are doing laundry. I suggest getting 1 or 2 thick squares of carpet.

UPDATE July 6th, 2009

I did just read the comment from someone who had problems ordering a spin dryer. I can't speak for that company other than mine arrived on time and in good shape and still works like new. I did go to the BBBlink and did only see 1 complaint about the company.

For reasons I don't understand, I was only ever able to find 1 company in the US that sells a spin dryer. Maybe some enterprising individual might think of importing some from a country that uses them more and start a business selling them. I had a friend who told me that they are pretty common in Europe. (Note: I do remember I had to wait a month to order a spin dryer from the Laundry Alternative because they were out of stock. I'm not vouching for the company - just giving my personal experience.

November 6, 2009 UPDATE

I was curious to see how long I've had my washer and dryer to calculate how much I've saved in quarters (13 months x $20 = $260). It's been over a year so I thought I'd add a first year update. The washer, dryer, and spin dryer all work like new. Which is great, I'm not sure if I'm lucky or not, but in my case they are fine. I did make the decision not to use bleach early on. I'm not sure if that has made any difference.

As far as drying. I reread my review and while it is true, if you use the spin dryer before the Haier dryer your wash will be bone dry in 90 minutes, that is with a small-med load. If you fill the dryer to the max. It will take 2-2.5 hours to dry. I just make sure to do medium loads more often.

My mom told me a secret to drying sheets! I still dry one sheet at a time for 90 minutes, but my mom said, AND SHE WAS RIGHT, if you put in a DRY towel (I use a big one) the sheet does not ball up while it spins. This has made a big difference in drying sheets, which are a pain to dry. I also bought a retractable clothesline from amazon. So when I dry sheets, (I don't use the spin dryer for sheets because the sheets are so big they can make the spin dryer go out of balance), I hang one on he clothes line, and they dry 1 for 90 minutes. Then I take the one out of the dryer and put it on the clothes line and put the one one from the clothes line in the dryer. Sometimes I have to put a sheet in for another 30 minutes.

Also, you really do need pull out and clean out the filter after every load. It really makes the drying time MUCH faster because it allows the air to flow out of the machine. You have to clean the lint off the "catch" and also the black filter thingy. Someone posted that an improvement on removing the filter would make the dryer a lot better. I totally agree with that.

The bottom line is: It depends on your personality; which do you dislike more? Digging up quarters, piling up your soap on your clothes in a basket and making a bunch of trips to the laundry room once a week or setting up these crazy contraptions in your apartment and turning your laundry doing into an art form where you have to get creative and be a little unorthodox.

We bought a Bosch fridge 2 weeks ago after our 9 yr old Maytag fridge stopped working.NEVER buy a side by side Maytag fridge!!NOTHING but trouble 2 weeks after the 1 yr warranty was up.Compressor finally quit after 9 years, lost 100's of dollars in food, paid $100 to fix the fridge every 6 months.

Anyways, purchased a Bosch B26ft fridge w/french doors & water dispenser/ice maker.First of all, it is clean and beautiful in our kitchen. There is a lot of space for various sizes and shapes of food and food container.Maintains constant temperature with little fluctuation.I LOVE the water dispenser and ice maker. We had this in our other fridge, but the ice and water always had a background taste. The bottom mount freezer is fantastic.Very easy to organize items and therefore, you can store much more.

The only possible down side is that the exterior is easily fingerprinted/smudged.Considering the use of a fridge is to keep food stored properly, I am EXTREMELY happy with my purchase.I will update my review after 1 year.

Whirlpool : GI5FSAXVY Refrigerator Review

Whirlpool : GI5FSAXVY Refrigerator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let's put it this way, I had a Whirlpool double wide before and bought in to this French door stuff and will never buy one again. Please make sure you consider how you will access you frozen foods. Also consider how much space will be taken in order to get ice and water out the front door. Also note that you have to open both doors most of the time to access most of your foods. Here are the issues with this model:
1) Although the manual shows a onetime leveling mechanism through the wheels, in actuality you have to level it through leveling feet. Thus once you have it level you will have to unlevel it to move the refrigerator to clean. That is a pain and sucks they didn't correct their manual to show it.
2) The website graphics show a dairy bin, but in actuality you don't get one and you can't purchase one.Now we drop our butter in their soda holder which is useless anyways.
3) They give you this soda metal slide out rack that is at an angle for the sodas to roll out.The problem is that we don't have a need for two soda holders. You can't use the rack for anything else except sodas based on it design. We use it now to sloppily hold yogurts.
4) Although this is Energy Star, they have to put a dehumidify heater between the two French doors in order for moisture not to form on the outside of the refrigerator. This is a feature you turn on if needed and it only took a day to realize I have to keep this heater on all the time, so much for energy savings.
5) They use the Ice maker as a way to distribute the cooling into the refrigerator.Unfortunately things are so ergonomically tight that all the milk and water products freeze. The solution has been to raise the freezer temperature up from 0 to 4 degrees and seems to solve the problem. However, it is really just a poor design issue.
I am really disappointed in the poor design of the Whirlpool product and also in the fundamentals of French doors.I am

EDITED to add comments after 6 months of use:

People continue to curse at the stupid design of the water dispenser, and continue to spill water all over the place.Reducing the star rating from original 3 stars to 2.I would NOT recommend this unit, especially for the asking price. If you can find one on clearance, maybe, but again, there is NOTHING special about this that qualifies it to be priced above $1K imo.

ONE year warranty people...that should tell you something right there.

**********

Replaced a GE fridge with this model:

Due to my space limitations, I narrowed it down to the similar Kitchenaid model (kind of wish I had gone for this), and the Whirlpool at the same level.Bought online sight unseen fwiw.

Honestly, I don't see why the "PROFESSIONAL" designation on this.Nothing about the quality makes me think it's anything other than a very average refrigerator.Cheap, plastic bins just like every other average unit I have seen.

PROS:
- Best thing about this is the good looking AND practical stainless steel finish. It's great really - NO smudging (except on the handles) AND it's magnetic (something rare in SS models).

- "theater" lighting...when you open the doors at night, supposedly it doesn't blind you immediately, but rather gradually, as the lights ramp up

- Has a changeable air filter.I like this...no more arm and hammer boxes taking up space and tipping over. OTOH, another filter to replace.

- External, digital temp controls for both sides.I like the idea of this...but in reality, how often are you going to be changing the temperature? If you have to change it a lot, maybe there is a problem with the thermostat?

- this is a small thing, but I really like that some of the side compartments in the fridge have a non slip surface.Very nice touch.Instead of your jars of jelly sliding around and clanking into each other (except when the door closes, see below), things stay nicely in place.CONS:
- OMG THE DOOR SLAM.This one kills me, and for such a small thing, makes such a big negative impression because it's EVERY time you deal with the fridge. When you close the door, there is NO "cushion" for lack of a better or more technical word.On my very low end GE (and most every fridge out there for that matter), there is a built in governor I guess that slows the speed of the door so it doesn't just slam closed.I think what happens is that the resistance is just greater as you approach the closed position.Whatever that feature is, WP for some reason decided to leave it out on this fridge (maybe none of theirs have this, no idea). It is sooo annoying. We have gotten used to it more or less, and most of the time we carefully and slowly close the door so it doesn't rattle the whole kitchen. But anybody else (who of course is also used to the normal, slower fridge door behavior) closing the fridge door is always startled and usually jumps when the door SLAMS shut with a huge rattle. This is just piss poor design imo, and is a big negative. I am sure we will eventually get used to it, but shouldn't have to.

- another horrible, non standard design implementation re: water dispener.Unless you have an extremely wide cup (think wide coffee mug or even soup bowl/mug, you can't just push your glass into the unit expecting water to hit.Nooooo.Because of the design, any normal rim sized glass will be overshot by the water squirter, so you have to wrap your hand around the glass and then insert, to make up for the space.Never seen another fridge with this problem, and like the door slam issue, because it's so unusual, every time someone not living in our house goes for water, they end up getting it all over them and the floor. That tells you right there it's not just me being picky.I swear they designed the thing and never actually tested it in a real live situation. Inexcusable imo.

Because these two things have relatively easy workarounds, I am not going to go into below average territory.I doubt there is a perfect fridge out there, but I do wish I had gone for the Kitchenaid.I wonder if their engineers made similar mistakes.

3 stars, barely, and that is assuming that this unit will last many years w/o probs.

IMO, look at the Kitchenaid before buying this one.

Haier HLP21N Pulsator 1-Cubic-Foot Portable Washer Review

I haven't had any leak problems. The strange noise I was hearing puzzled me. I also envy anybody who can buy this machine straight through Amazon. you lucky ducks you ;-) I had to pay forty dollars for shipping.

Please let me know if you do hear strange noises. I am curious as to how many people get coins stuck inside the drum. It actually took me a while to figure out where the noise was coming from and took the bottom and back panel off, but the noise still continued. I'm not sure how the quarter became stuck in there, and still baffles me to this day. Please keep me updated with any concerns regarding noises. Hopefully, other owners or myself can help.

As far as the effectiveness of the machine, 5 stars says it all. To note, this washer machine doesn't have a drum spindle (not sure what you call the part that takes up space in most washers), so you can actually fit many more articles or clothing and/or towels inside.

Please let me know if this review was helpful.

Hamilton Beach 4200 Premium Hot and Cold Water Dispenser Review

Hamilton Beach 4200 Premium Hot and Cold Water Dispenser

I just did the initial cleaning as specified in the manual. After reading the previous reviews, I'll put a disposable roaster pan under it in case it leaks. The reason I'm writing this review so soon is that I'm already finding this appliance a bit difficult to use. I don't like the design of the 2 small silicone drain stoppers in the bottom of the unit. They have to be removed and replaced twice each for a cleaning (that's a total of eight operations - 2 removals and 2 replacements for hot and the same for cold). Using needle-nose pliers (as specified in the instructions) I had to do a lot of pulling and twisting to get them to come off. They are delicate and it is difficult to tell how badly they are damaged by this. The result of a damaged stopper under 3 gallons of pressure would be a bad leak. They go on easily enough - its only removing them that's a problem. The unit came with two plugs installed plus three extras. I tore one and was afraid to reuse the other two so now the last two are installed. I've contacted Hamilton Beach and asked for replacements in case I need them the next time I have to drain the unit. They really need to redesign the way this model drains. I bought it as a convenience - I wish it were easier to use.

This refrigerator replaced one of those double door refrigerators that had 5 freezer shelves which were too narrow to accomodate frozen pizzas or a 22 lb turkey. I hated the old fridge. It looked nice, but was pretty useless and impractical.
My new Kitchenaid refrigerator/freezer is great. Food items are clearly visible and there is plenty of storage space on both doors that allow for varied heigths depending on your needs. Electronic controls allows for consistent temp. Vegetable and fruit storage is accomodated with large bins and coldcuts and cheeses have their own storage drawers. There is an alarm that alerts you if the doors are not properly closed and a constant readout indicating temperature. A water dispenser is mounted on an exterior door which I don't use much.
The lower mounted freezer has two deep baskets that hold pretty much everything with an adjustable slide for more efficient storage.
The stainless steel exterior glistens and offers a lot of flexibility re: home decor. The exterior does require a weekly cleaning with stainless cleaner.
I like the quality, performance, and appearance and bought as second similar unit without the water dispenser.

I realize this was through A-1 appliance, but Amazon has them on their website, so I blame them as much as A-1.The bulb arrived in a box packed with magazine pages for "padding."There was no receipt, no packing slip etc.., so when i opened the box and realized they sent me the wrong item, I didn't know how to return it, or even a receipt to check what they sent.pay a few extra bucks and get it from a reputable company.A-1 is a good steak sauce, but they are an awful part supplier

I LOVE the look of my new fridge. It's unique.I love having 2 separate handles for each of the freezer compartments.Stores a ton more stuff than it looks.Keeps the food very cold.In fact, I had to dial down the cold air on several occasions when I first got the fridge, esp. in the winter.

The taste of the water from the water filtration system is not bad.BUT....the water dispenser totally sucks.I'm constantly spilling water because the spout is soooo close to the "water-push" button that a cup barely fits between the spout and the button. If you put the cup lower (below the "water-push" button, the water splashes out of the cup.The ice, esp. the crushed ice, always splash out of the cup.I'm constantly cleaning the fridge area because I'm constantly splashing water and/or ice.If the spout could have been placed an extra 1cm outward, it probably would have helped this problem greatly. Also, if the ice dispenser could dispense the ice more gently, it would also have helped

My wife and I bought this refrigerator for our new home.I am usually a big fan of LG products because of their focus on making them user friendly with some well-thought-out features. However, this product has been a disappointment.Less than 2 months after our purchase we had to have the computer control board replaced. The ice maker frequently gets jammmed with refrozen ice cubes because of the design of the outlet which allows ice cubes to thaw and then refreeze at the outlet. In addition, the top freezer drawer gets ice build-up that makes the drawer hard to open.I thought defrosting freezers was something that was in the past!To top it off, we have already had one of the door racks break. This unit is far too expensive to have this many strikes against it!

LG : LSC27931SB 26.5 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator - Black
Average Reviews:

We are very happy with our fridge. It is huge on the inside, and very bright, and the shelves are sturdy and there is plenty of room to organize the fridge the way you like. The freezer is nice and roomy and the only thing I do not like are the 2 wire baskets at the bottom.I have a hard time pulling them out since items peek through the wire mesh and get caught with the items in the basket underneath or on top.

But the nicest feature is the fact that the ice maker is on the SIDE, on the freezer door. The only caveat is that you have to make sure not to place anything on the top shelf to block the connection to the side ice maker, but there is plenty of space on the top shelf, so it is not too big of a problem.According to manufacturer's specs, there is no more cubic feet in this model than the older one that had the ice maker inside the freezer (The model LG LSC27910SB and this one both have 10.24 cubic feet of space). However, I prefer have shelf space rather than a side drawer space.Plus, the pull-out ice bin on the side is really nifty and compact, and slides easily in.It is clear plastic so you can see how much ice is in it.

I also really like the tall dispenser. At first, I thought it was gimmicky until I had company and had to fill 2 pitchers of water several times through the evening. No tilting and trying to fit the pitcher under a short dispenser! It really is a nice feature. And if you have a fragile pitcher, there is a water button that you can use instead of pushing against the dispenser.

Finally, the digital display looks really cool. The numbers and symbols are this pretty blue color (not red, which would have been horrible), and after you get used to pressing the buttons to change the settings and not the display (for some reason, we kept doing this when trying to change the ice setting from crush to cube or vice versa), it is very handy.Aside from the forementioned button for Ice Type, there are buttons for setting the temps of your refrigerator (40 degrees for us-- at 38 degrees the juice froze) and freezer (0 degrees), a button for "Ice Plus", a feature that revs up the ice machine and makes more ice cubes faster (but don't forget to turn it off when you have enough ice!), and a button to change lock the display and deal with the alarm (an alarm can go off after 30 seconds to warn you you have left the door open). Also, the display of the temperatures is not the actual temperature of the fridge or freezer, which would have been really cool, but the settings.

The water dispenser requires a filter that the manufacturer recommends be replaced every 6 months, and they have a display with a monthly digital countdown for that!We have not decided whether we will replace it every 6 months, and if we do not, there is supposed to be a way to reset this timer so it won't bother you if you don't.

We bought the black one, and we love it.The handles are longer than the older model and look very sleek. The only odd thing about the black is that the doors are smooth black, the but the rest of the fridge is that textured black that fridges usually come in.At first, it drove me crazy, but now I do not notice it.

We are very, very happy with this fridge and would recommend it. We got it from our local big box hardware store (only one of the national stores carry it, the other does not carry LG), and we bought the extended warranty just in case.It was worth the $99 for 4 years of peace.
